In January 2024, the Palmtech team began a training cycle in the production of biodegradable geotextile blankets. The first workshop, entitled “From Grão to Grão, erosion takes our floor”, sought to use different pedagogical strategies to engage members of the Salinas do Sacavém community in actions to recover degraded areas.
The workshop consisted of demonstrating in practice how erosion works through the application of a soil simulator. The devices are built in three PET bottles containing soil with different levels of protection: the first demonstrates the exposed soil, the second the soil protected by some mechanical cover and the third covered by vegetation. To check the effect of water on the soil, a little water is poured into each of the bottles, which allows you to check how much soil is removed in the three different scenarios.
